I am a Reader in Linguistics at the Centre for Speech and Language Therapy and Hearing Science, Cardiff Metropolitan University, where I lead the Speech, Hearing and Communication Research Group.
I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the British Association of Academic Phoneticians (BAAP), the British Association of Clinical Linguistics (BACL), the International Phonetic Association (IPA) and the International Association for the Study of Child Language (IASCL).
My teaching encompasses a wide range of areas within linguistics, and I am responsible for the co-ordination of final-year dissertations.
My research is interested in understanding speech development in bilinguals and multilinguals across the lifespan, with a focus on the phonetic and phonological aspects of first and second language acquisition, first language attrition, and atypical development. I currently supervise several PhD students.
